Whether you’re training for your first half marathon, chasing a new Personal Record, preparing for your next race, or simply want to become a stronger, healthier runner, Princeton Longevity Center’s Ultimate Runner Program gives you a deeper understanding of how your body performs and what you can do to improve it.
Led by Dr. Harry Pino, Princeton Longevity Center’s Manager of Exercise Physiology, USA Track & Field Certified Coach and 13-time Boston Marathon qualifier, the Ultimate Runner Program combines advanced performance testing with PLC’s renowned preventive health expertise to show you what is happening inside your body when you run.
Train with better data. Understand your limits. Unlock your potential with the experts.
Running technology has come a long way. But the numbers on your wearable device only tell part of the story.
At Princeton Longevity Center, we directly evaluate the physiological factors that influence endurance, speed, recovery, and long-term health. Our team uses advanced testing to help you understand how efficiently your body uses oxygen, where your optimal training zones lie, how your movement may affect performance and injury risk, and how to better fuel your training.
The result is a highly personalized picture of you as a runner, not an algorithm based on someone like you.
The Ultimate Runner Program can benefit:
Your goals are personal. Your testing and recommendations should be, too.
Know your engine.
VO₂max measures your body’s ability to take in, transport and use oxygen during increasingly intense exercise. Rather than relying solely on an estimate from a wearable device, direct testing allows us to evaluate your aerobic capacity under controlled conditions.
This information can help identify opportunities to improve cardiovascular fitness, establish more meaningful training targets and measure changes in performance over time.
For runners, it provides one of the clearest windows into aerobic fitness and endurance potential.
Find the effort you can sustain.
Your fastest training isn’t always your smartest training.
Lactate threshold testing helps identify the intensity at which fatigue begins to accumulate more rapidly. Understanding that threshold can help establish individualized training zones and give you more useful information for structuring easy runs, tempo work, intervals and race preparation.
Instead of basing every workout on a generic heart-rate formula, train around your physiology.
Go beyond the scale.
Body weight alone doesn’t show how your body is changing with training.
DEXA provides a detailed assessment of body composition, including lean muscle mass, body fat, and regional distribution. These insights can help runners better understand changes in muscle and fat, track progress over time, and inform training and nutrition strategies based on their individual goals.
See how you move.
Small inefficiencies can become significant over thousands of steps.
Biomechanical video analysis evaluates movement patterns, joint mechanics, asymmetries, weaknesses and limitations that may be affecting your running.
Our specialists can use these findings to help identify areas where improvements in strength, mobility or mechanics may support more efficient movement and reduce factors associated with injury.
Understand your body’s energy needs.
Your training plan and nutrition strategy should work together.
Resting Metabolic Rate testing evaluates how much energy your body uses at rest and provides additional insight into energy utilization. The results can help inform nutrition and fitness recommendations based on your body, training demands and goals.
Fuel the miles ahead.
Training for a race can significantly change your nutritional needs.
A Registered Dietitian can provide personalized guidance around:
The objective isn’t simply to eat “healthy.” It’s to fuel your body appropriately for what you’re asking it to do.
You can be incredibly fit and still have health risks you can’t see or feel.
In fact, research has shown that very high-volume endurance training may be associated in some athletes with coronary artery calcification, atrial fibrillation and other cardiovascular changes. Fitness alone does not tell you whether underlying cardiovascular risk is present. That’s why understanding the health behind your performance matters.
PLC combines sophisticated diagnostic technology, advanced imaging and physician-led evaluation to look beyond athletic performance and assess the health systems supporting it.
Depending upon your selected program, evaluation may include advanced cardiovascular imaging, vascular assessment, laboratory testing and additional preventive diagnostic testing.
Because your next PR matters. So does being healthy enough to keep chasing the one after it.
Running places significant demands on the cardiovascular system.
PLC’s advanced cardiovascular testing and imaging provide a much deeper look at cardiovascular health than fitness testing alone, helping identify potential concerns that may exist even in active, seemingly healthy individuals.
For runners who are serious about both performance and longevity, understanding cardiovascular health is an important part of understanding the complete athlete.
Numbers are only useful when you know what to do with them.
Following your evaluation, your results are interpreted by PLC’s team and translated into practical recommendations based on your health, fitness level and running goals.
Depending upon your program, recommendations may address:
Reassessment can also help you objectively track how your body responds as your training progresses.
