Crescendo Fasting by Donna Hayek, RD

DEFINITION: A type of intermittent fasting made particularly for women, since women do not do well with a prolonged intermittent fasting schedule because of their fluctuation of hormones.  It’s fasting 12 to 16 hours at a time on 2 to 3 nonconsecutive days per week.  It allows for shorter periods of fasting in a shorter week timespan, thus negating the negative effects for women, making it easier to follow.  It restricts calorie intake to help you lose weight without telling your body that you are in starvation mode since you are fasting for shorter and less frequent periods of time.  It’s also recommended to drink plenty of water throughout the fasting timeline.

WHO IT’S NOT FOR: People with metabolic disorders like diabetes or hypoglycemia episodes.  It’s also not good for kids, teens or pregnant women.
